The first trip of 2017 was another productive and emotional trip. The 31 volunteers took part in building 2 new homes, held medical clinics in the community of Javillar and nearby schools, saw first hand how to cook traditional Dominican food in the Kitchen Encounters and connected with locals!
We also visited The Nest of Love School, met with the staff and some volunteers had the opportunity to teach a lesson. The STLI Child Sponsorship Program helps provide these students an education that many could not afford on their own. Many students still have yet to be sponsored and we have made a new page here on the site for you to learn more about the program and you can even sponsor a child yourself!
Other highlights included reconnecting with old friends and having the opportunity to hear stories from people in the community. Seeing some of last year’s severe, heavy, rain damage and the effect it had on the houses there shows how there is continually a great need. Overall it was an amazing trip with a great group of people that really worked well together.
