We had a large group of absolutely wonderful people join us from 4 provinces. We ranged in age from 1 to 70 (with that birthday being celebrated on our trip) and quickly became like family.
We were blessed to be able to build 3 houses for deserving families, provide dental and medical clinics, lead youth bible studies and even teach classes at a local school!
In addition, we also took donations of art and school supplies to a local preschool, launched a Zumba/circuit training program (funded by the monies raised from Jonah and Isaiah’s candle fundraiser, and held a parenting class.

Miguel, who many of you know and love, officially joined our Shine the Light team in January. He is living in Javillar, alongside the people he is serving, and is currently teaching English classes to adults and children and facilitating a Bible study with young men in the community as well as helping out in many other ways.
It brought us great joy to see the community centre full of people on so many occasions during our 3 weeks in the Dominican. A few of these being after school and weekend drop-in for youth (thanks Moreno), Zumba classes, and an amazing Bible program put on by a local ministry with Dominican volunteers.
We also toured all of the homes that Shine the Light has built in Javillar and were very impressed by how clean and well kept they were. We planned to give a prize to the cleanest/most organized home but ended up giving out three prizes as it was so hard to decide. Several of our group members also had the privilege of reconnecting with Sandra and many of the homeowners we built homes for in Nuevo Renacer.
