There were 13 adults and, of course, Jonah and Isaiah, Brent and Wendy’s sons. This trip focused mainly on the construction of a fence around a school yard for a local group. The school is in the village of Cangrejo. We stayed in Sosua.
The job entailed trenching for the footings, including the removal of an enormous stump. The concrete footings were then built up with concrete blocks to form the base on which the chain link fence was ultimately erected.
All materials were delivered at road level to the job site and had to be carried downhill to the work area. Rain would fall 3 or 4 times a day followed by sunshine and high temperatures, a combination that kept the humidity very high.
We had marvelous participation from local volunteers, especially the children and after building the fence, we were able to construct some desks and shelves for the school as well.
We had intended to assist in a children’s feeding program in Ascension on the Wednesday but heavy rains made the roads impassable.
