We just returned from an immensely rewarding and impacting trip with 47 people...our largest group to date!
Wow, have things have grown since our early trips 9 years ago when it was brent, myself and a couple friends doing dental clinics.
We couldn't have imagined that, in the next several years we'd bring dental and medical care to thousands in need, build 20 homes, and have teams of nearly 50 people spending their own hard-earned cash to join us...and make this all possible.
Thanks to the 47 amazing team members who joined us, gave it your all, laughed hard, worked hard, played hard and brought joy to the hearts of our family and countless families in the Dominican Republic. You are all heroes to Brent, Jonah, Isaiah, and I. Thanks for trusting us by taking the plunge and signing up for a Shine the Light trip.

My personal highlights this trip were:
1.The launch of Shine the Light Job Skills training. Under the instruction of the always bubbly and passionate Charity Funk, owner of Just Breathe Spa & Salon here in Winnipeg, 6 young women became qualified manicurists & pedicurists, now able to work from home while caring for their children or find work in an existing nail salon due to their newly acquired skills.
2. Building a home for the family of Jonah & Isaiah's best friend in the Dominican Republic, Andy. Most of us North Americans store our lawnmowers in buildings that are most habitable than the building they were previously calling "home". When learning that we would like to build a home for them, in true generous Dominican style, they said it would be a home for their whole family - meaning Andy's mom's sisters, brother, and their families. There are 15 people that now, very happily, call the approximately 750 square foot house pictured below home.
